Version 0.1 ยท Updated October 17, 2026
ParleSprint Immersion helps you practise French with subtitles while watching YouTube.
The extension includes an original short French listening sample with a synthetic Google Gemini voice and authored translations. The audio is bundled with the extension; playing the sample does not make an AI request or require an account.
Learning preferences, AI consent, and saved vocabulary are stored in Chrome's local extension storage. Vocabulary may include a selected word or phrase, its subtitle sentence, learning level, saved time, and an explanation. Imported subtitle cues and their source filename are stored locally under the corresponding YouTube video identifier so they can be restored when you return. Subtitle files are processed in your browser. Account session tokens and generated explanation cache are also stored in local extension storage; signing out removes the session and local explanation cache. The extension reads the current video's playback position and available browser caption tracks to synchronize practice. It does not record audio or use your microphone.
You can use local practice without an account. Existing ParleSprint email/password accounts connect to the same Supabase service as the app. Your password is sent to Supabase for authentication and is not stored by the extension. Account identifier, email, display name, and provider may be stored locally with your session to show which account is connected. These identity fields are not included in explanation requests to Gemini.
The shipped version 0.1 does not request Chrome's identity permission and does not read your Chrome profile or Google account through Chrome's profile APIs. Google and Apple provider sign-in are currently disabled by configuration: the extension callback is not yet allowlisted for Google, and Apple's browser OAuth secret is not configured. Existing email/password connection remains available. Enabling provider connection in a future build requires secure callback/provider configuration and the explicit Chrome identity permission for user-initiated sign-in windows using PKCE. The selected provider and Supabase would process that sign-in, and the extension would validate its callback before storing a session. No provider secret is included in the extension.
AI explanations require your consent. When you request one, the selected French text, its sentence context, and your learning level are sent to the configured ParleSprint Supabase service, which calls Google's Gemini service. Your Supabase account or session identifier, authentication token, and network metadata such as your IP address may be processed to authenticate the request and apply usage limits. The backend stores cached explanations and account-based daily quota counters. This release does not automatically expire those database records; the service operator must manage retention and deletion. Provider infrastructure may maintain operational logs under its own policies. Do not submit sensitive personal information in subtitles or selections.
The AI service is optional. You can disable consent and continue using local practice. Requests already processed by a backend or provider are not removed by disabling consent or clearing local data. Relevant provider information: Supabase privacy policy and Gemini API terms.
This release contains no analytics events, advertisements, or sale of personal information. Information is sent to the configured backend and AI provider only for requested explanations and service operations. YouTube and Chrome separately process information under their own policies.
You can remove saved vocabulary using the extension's controls. Chrome removes extension-local data when you uninstall. Clearing local data does not delete provider logs or backend cache entries.
