Real-life French is made of short moves. This lesson gives you a flexible café pattern, then asks you to swap the drink, size, and place so the words stay yours.
A useful rhythm
Read it. Notice it. Use it.
You do not need a perfect café dialogue. You need a few short moves that can survive a different drink, a different size, or a question you did not expect.
The four moves in the interaction

Useful café phrases
The most useful phrase is often the one that lets you recover. You are allowed to slow the interaction down. A polite clarification is not a failure; it is a normal conversational tool.

- Je voudrais un thé.
- Je prends un espresso.
- Pour moi, un café au lait.
Recover
- Vous pouvez répéter, s’il vous plaît ?
- Je n’ai pas compris.
- C’est quoi, exactement ?
Change one detail
Start with the model sentence, then change only one piece. This is enough variation to make the language available without creating a new lesson every time.

The sentence to keep
Je voudrais…, s’il vous plaît is a small doorway into many interactions. Put a new noun after it, keep the rest familiar, and practise the sentence until your attention can move to the person in front of you.
