How to use it
commencer means “to start”. It is a regular -er verb with a spelling change, so the endings follow the regular -er pattern. Before a or o the c becomes ç (nous commençons, je commençais) so it keeps the s sound. In the passé composé it takes avoir: j’ai commencé. The past participle is commencé. Future and conditional share one stem: je commencerai / je commencerais.
